About Global Food for Hunger, Inc.

ISKCON Bangalore has been actively involved in various humanitarian and social welfare programmes for nearly three decades. They include food distribution initiatives that we have undertaken to serve people from all walks of life irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, gender or any other consideration. Through such programmes, we strive to ensure that no one within the reach of our organisation goes hungry.

The Akshaya Patra mid-day meal programme is one of our most successful initiatives. We initiated this programme with the objective of providing unlimited food for education. We serve fresh, hot and nutritious meals every day to children studying in government schools across India.

We made a humble beginning by feeding a small number of 1500 children in 5 schools every day. Our first kitchen was inaugurated in Bangalore. We initially started feeding at nearby locations around our centre. Soon, we received requests from many other schools to serve their students as well. That is when we realised the extensive need for this programme and decided to increase our feeding to as many children as possible.

We recently commemorated the milestone of serving 4 billion meals since the inception of Akshaya Patra, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. We are currently feeding over 2.2 million children every day all over India.

Our feeding programmes gradually extended beyond the shores of India. We have served over 700,000 meals through our food assistance initiatives to children, students and others in need in the United Kingdom.

We have undertaken various emergency feeding programmes to provide food relief to victims of various natural calamities like earthquakes and floods in India and abroad. We also extended aid to war-prone areas like Ukraine, benefitting millions of people who were facing food insecurity.

We have now established Global Food For Hunger Inc., complying with all international laws of charity, to serve wholesome meals to the underserved, homeless and other disadvantaged communities across the globe. We are registered as a 501(C)3 organisation in the United States of America.

In Phase 1, we plan to introduce about fifty ‘Kitchen on Wheels’ to feed the homeless, immigrants and such needy communities. We would like to initiate our feeding programme in New York, the most populous city in the nation.

In Europe, we are planning to construct a centralised kitchen to provide food assistance in humanitarian corridors to the affected people in war-torn countries. We will also provide other essential needs based on the requirement.

In this way, we aspire to fulfil the desire of Srila Prabhupada and contribute to creating a hunger-free world.
